Our goal at Pale Horse Coffee is to offer you an artisan coffee drinking experience that inspires a love for country and craft coffee and empowers you to conquer whatever challenge comes your way! We’re here for you when you feel angry, murderous, and unmotivated, like death riding that pale horse. (Rev 6:8).
You can find us stationed at our two shops in Chesapeake, Virginia, where we serve our local community, roast some of the finest beans on the market, and ship fresh coffee to Pale Horse Coffee drinkers worldwide. No matter where you call home base, we look forward to delivering a fresh cup of Pale Horse Coffee to you soon!
Born and raised in the great state of Michigan, Gray Livingston served in the U.S. Air Force from 1982-2003, first as an enlisted ICBM electronic technician and later as a Communications Officer. Gray began the Pale Horse Coffee operation in 2019 with several veteran colleagues who later moved on to other ventures. Gray is now the sole owner and chief operator of Pale Horse Coffee. He’s excited to share his love for country and coffee with you and your family!
As a veteran owned and operated coffee company, our goal is to not only inspire an appreciation for craft coffee but to also ignite a blazing passion for this great country. We’re proud to be American here at Pale Horse Coffee. We put that pride into action by supporting veterans, active duty military members, and first responders. Without these brave men and women who protect our country and communities, our lives would be drastically different. We honor their sacrifices, both mental and physical, through fundraiser events and special edition fundraiser coffees, such as our Trailblazer and First Bite Espresso.
Just because our country is first in our hearts doesn’t mean we don’t take our coffee seriously too. We’re dead serious when it comes to sourcing, roasting and brewing the most death-defying java possible!

We seek out fair-trade coffees to provide you with not only a delicious but also an ethical cup of coffee. Fair-trade certified coffee is grown using careful standards that protect the environment and work in favor of coffee farmers and their communities. Fair trade coffee farmers market their beans directly to international buyers, making them forces to be reckoned with in the global marketplace. This fair-trade model supports progress in the developing world and empowers impoverished groups through trade, not charity.
We roast and infuse our coffees in small-batches daily to offer you maximum freshness and lightning fast order fulfillment. Our roasters learn about the science, operations and industry standards of coffee roasting through professional training courses and rigorous on the job experience. Our signature line of flavor-infused coffees are carefully marinated in all-natural flavorings because why would we ruin some of the best coffee in the world with that artificial bullsh*t? Our promise to you is bold, empowering flavor and maximum freshness, so we roast and infuse our coffees in small-batches everyday!
We like our coffee strong, so we steep our cold brews to their darkest and pull double shots of freshly ground espresso. Every morning, our baristas dial-in our espresso to perfection. Each shot and every batch of drip coffee is ground fresh at the counter to properly unleash all those complex flavors and avoid a bland, watery, under-extracted cup. We time our pourovers perfectly, replace our drip regularly and sweeten our signature lattes mildly. No matter the beverage or brewing method, we put in the time, training and care required to craft a truly kickass cup of coffee to power a truly kickass community!
